Comments on the reading and class activity.
I think that we should be taught more advanced techniques of webpage building in the class. Anydumbo could figure out how to use an html editor. You should teach us flash for example.
The third reading focused on the importance of accessing authentic websites for research. I think this is very important. The case was about a child who went to a website that explainedthe death camps of the holoucast as medical camps, and thus thought that the holoucaust did not happen. I think it is important to have skills that can prevent these kinds of errors. We should also hone our kids and ourselves, into giving in to the currents of the times, i.e. many thingsthe media says, which are geared to serving the power elite. An example would be that of the US going into iraq, for the sake of bringing back democracy. This is clearly not true, as shown by Chomsky and many others. Media critique has to be taught, so that children can search for the true intent of people or powerstructures.

week 2
Comments on the reading and class activity.
I think that Same has taught us a very effective way to organize our thoughts, i.e. the concept maps. The reading also talks about the concept maps, i.e. they can be uses in brainstorming, curriculm planning, concept formation etc. I tutor 2 kids, and recently I have used concept mapswith them in vocabulary building. I tell them to think about 5 concepts that go with a certain word and then attach them to the word node. Then based on their 5 concepts, they have to search a picture that best represents the node. They have found this technique really useful for englishvocabulary building.

comments about the course pack reading:
This reading makes a very good point that until we think about computers morelike fingerpaing and less like televisions, computers will not live up to their full potential. I agree with this and think that computers should be used for more than entertainment. They should be used to create models, which are not possible or are very difficult to create without them. Children should be encouragedto use computers in this way.
The text makes a point taht in addition to rethinking our apporach to learning and education, wealso need to rethink the technologies that we provide to young people. I disagree with this. I think taht technology at a very young age is something that can be very destructive. In suchcases prevention is the best cure. Once the children become older, technology should be gradually introduced.
Answers to the texbook questions. :
2. I think that leadership theories represent most closely as to what I think about learning. Childrean have this natural urge to learn, which needs to be monitored by constructive leadership on behalf of the teachers.
5. In grade 3 when I learnt that the earth was round, it really shocked me. I remember coming to my father and arguing with him that this fact is wrong. It shocked me as my perception was telling me that the earth is flat. Now this fact has becomre normalized.
6. A topic of controversy might be whether devils cause epilepsy. From the scientific perspectifvethis is an ancient myth. The assumption ofcourse is that the scientific method only holds as its ontological basis, things which are observable. From the other side, the argument can be that the ontology does not necessary require empirical evidence. From this perspective it is possibleto say that devils can cause epilepsy.
15. yes in my last term classes. I think that it made my ideas expressable in a succint and cohesive manner. It made me feel good about myself.
